FAFSA
How To Fill Out The FAFSA Form
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a crucial step in securing financial assistance for your education at Alexander Academy. Follow these steps to complete the FAFSA and maximize your eligibility for federal and state financial aid programs.
- Social Security number (SSN) or Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
- Driver’s license or state ID (if you have one)
- Federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned for the previous year (for yourself and your parents, if dependent)
- Records of untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans’ non-education benefits
- Information on savings, investments, and business assets (for yourself and your parents, if dependent)
Step 1: Gather Required Documents
Before starting your FAFSA application, gather the following documents and information
Step 2: Create a FSA ID
Before you can fill out the FAFSA, you need to create an FSA ID. This serves as your electronic signature and allows you to access and sign your FAFSA electronically. Visit the Federal Student Aid website to create your FSA ID.
Step 3: Start Your FAFSA Application
Visit fafsa.gov to start your FAFSA application. Begin a new application and follow the prompts to enter your personal information, including your name, address, date of birth, and your school’s information (use Alexander Academy’s school code).
Step 4: Enter Financial Information
Enter financial information from the documents you gathered in Step 1. Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (if eligible) to automatically transfer your IRS tax return information into your FAFSA form, which can simplify the process and reduce errors.
Step 5: Review and Submit Your FAFSA
Review your FAFSA form carefully to ensure accuracy and completeness. Double-check all entered information, including names, addresses, and financial details. Make any necessary corrections before submitting your FAFSA.
Step 6: Receive and Review Your Student Aid Report (SAR)
After submitting your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) via email or postal mail. Review your SAR for accuracy and to confirm your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid.
Step 7: Follow Up and Additional Steps
Stay in contact with Alexander Academy’s financial aid office. They may request additional information or documentation to complete your financial aid package. Respond promptly to any requests to ensure timely processing of your aid.
Step 8: Monitor Your Aid Status
Check your financial aid status regularly through your school’s financial aid portal or by contacting the financial aid office. Be proactive in ensuring all required steps are completed to receive your financial aid for the upcoming academic year.
